The short version
BedStats has no account and no servers that hold your journal. Your entries, partners, notes, photos and videos live on your devices, and in your own iCloud only if you turn on sync or backups. We never see them. To improve the app, BedStats sends anonymous usage statistics that never include names, notes, places, media or health values.
On your devices
Everything you log is stored on the iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch you log it on. You can lock the app with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
iCloud sync and backups (optional)
Both are off until you turn them on, and both use your own private iCloud account. We have no access to it.
- iCloud synckeeps your journal the same on your iPhone and iPad through your private iCloud database. Heart rate stays on the device that read it unless you also turn on “Heart rate in iCloud”.
- iCloud backups save daily snapshots of your journal to the BedStats folder in your iCloud Drive and keep the last seven days. Photos and videos are included unless you turn that off.
You can delete your synced data from iCloud in Settings at any time. Each device keeps its own copy until you remove it.
Apple Health (optional)
With your permission, BedStats can read heart rate (to chart a session), sexual activity (to import your history from other apps) and menstrual flow (for cycle tracking). If you turn it on, it can also save partnered sessions to Apple Health. The Apple Watch app reads heart rate and saves a workout while a session is running. Health data is never sent to us and is never used for advertising.
Location (optional)
BedStats asks for your location only when you pick or save a place, and only while you use the app. Places are stored with your journal. Searching for a place uses Apple Maps, so those searches go to Apple.
Photos, camera and microphone
These are used only when you attach a photo or video to an entry. Attachments are stored with your journal.
Apple Intelligence (optional)
The optional summary of your patterns is written by Apple's on-device model. Your journal does not leave your device to produce it.
Anonymous usage statistics
BedStats uses PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count how the app is used: for example that the app was opened, a screen was viewed, an entry was saved or a setting was changed. Events carry the app and system version and a random identifier created on your device. Properties come from a fixed allowlist of yes/no values, screen names and counts in broad ranges; anything else is dropped before sending. They never include names, notes, places, photos, videos or health values, and are not linked to your Apple ID or to any account. As with any internet request, your device's IP address is visible to PostHog when the statistics are sent. BedStats does not use statistics for advertising, and does not sell or share them for marketing.
Notifications, Siri, Spotlight and widgets
Reminders, widgets, the Live Activity and Watch complications use neutral wording by default. Partner names appear in notifications, Siri, Spotlight and widgets only if you turn on “Names outside the app” in Settings.
Export and deleting your data
You can export your journal as a file at any time. Exports include photos and videos, so keep them somewhere safe. To delete your data, use Remove Data in Settings: removing your journal also removes heart rate and your iCloud backup snapshots. If you use iCloud sync, also use “Delete synced data from iCloud”. Deleting the app removes everything stored on that device.
Third parties
Apart from Apple (iCloud, Apple Health, Apple Maps) and the anonymous statistics above, BedStats sends nothing to anyone. There are no ads, no advertising SDKs and no social network integrations.
Children
BedStats is for adults and is not intended for children.
